Does completing a financial-literacy course get you ₹15,000 from EPFO? No. PM-VBRY is a conditional first-employment incentive. The course is one requirement for the second instalment; it does not make every salaried person eligible. Your joining date, previous PF contribution history, wages and employer's contribution records matter.
Checked against official sources on 18 October 2026. This guide explains the published rules; it does not confirm an individual's entitlement or payment date.
- Was this your first contributory EPFO or exempted-trust employment within the scheme's eligible period?
- Has the same employer filed and paid the required monthly ECR contributions?
- Are your UAN authentication, Aadhaar-linked bank details and, for the second instalment, prescribed course requirements complete?
A payslip alone cannot answer all three. Use the checks below before expecting a credit.
Who is eligible for the PM-VBRY ₹15,000 benefit?
The official PIB scheme explainer places eligible job creation between 1 August 2025 and 31 July 2027. Part A covers qualifying first-time employees with gross wages at joining of up to ₹1 lakh a month. Its employee incentive is capped at ₹15,000. Part B is an employer incentive; it is not an additional monthly allowance payable to the employee.
That means “my salary is below ₹1 lakh” is only an initial check. It does not settle whether you are a first timer or have the required service and contribution history.
| Question | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Did I join in the eligible period? | Compare your recorded date of joining with the scheme window. |
| Have I paid PF before? | Check all old member IDs, including an exempted employer's PF trust. |
| Does my employer's record match? | Ask payroll to reconcile joining, wage and paid contribution entries. |
| Am I mixing up salary figures? | Separate gross monthly wage, EPF wage and annual CTC. |
Does an existing UAN mean I am ineligible?
Not necessarily. The official PM-VBRY FAQ distinguishes having a UAN from having previous contributory membership. A person with a UAN but no earlier qualifying contributions can still meet the first-timer test. Previous contributions through an exempted PF trust also count: switching from a trust to EPFO does not turn an experienced contributor into a first-time employee.
For a personal check, make a small timeline: employer, joining date, member ID and first paid contribution month. An old inactive member ID and an actual old contribution are different pieces of evidence. Ask HR to resolve uncertainty rather than assuming the latest UAN screen tells the whole story.
Is ₹15,000 fixed, and when do the two instalments become due?
No: ₹15,000 is a ceiling. The official employee-benefit page describes an incentive linked to an EPF month's wage, paid in two instalments. The first follows six months of qualifying service; the second requires twelve months and completion of the prescribed financial-literacy programme. The latter is placed in a designated savings arrangement and is not an unrestricted immediate cash payment.
The scheme guidelines use average EPF wages: the first instalment is half the six-month average, capped at ₹7,500; the combined incentive uses the twelve-month average, capped at ₹15,000, after subtracting the first instalment already paid. The examples below assume constant wages and all other conditions met.
| EPF wage | First instalment | Combined maximum in example | Remaining second portion |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹10,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹5,000 |
| ₹15,000 | ₹7,500 | ₹15,000 | ₹7,500 |
| ₹20,000 | ₹7,500 | ₹15,000 | ₹7,500 |
Read the last column carefully: it is the calculated second portion, subject to the prescribed savings/deposit conditions. It is not a promise of money available for spending on the twelve-month anniversary. Variable wages require the actual averages. For help reading the underlying entries, see our EPF passbook guide.
Gross wage, EPF wage and CTC: which number should I use?
Imagine a payslip with several salary components and an offer letter with an annual CTC figure. Do not divide CTC by twelve and automatically enter that amount as EPF wage. Ask payroll to identify both the scheme's gross-wage eligibility figure and the EPF wage reported in the contribution return. This is especially useful when allowances, employer contributions or a salary revision make the documents look inconsistent.
How do I register and complete the PM-VBRY financial-literacy course?
The official FAQ says employees do not separately register to claim Part A: identification uses the employer's ECR records. It also specifies an EPFO-prescribed online financial-literacy programme for the second instalment. Watching an unrelated finance video or buying a private certificate is not evidence of completing that requirement.
- Start at the official PM-VBRY website and follow its current employee guidance.
- Confirm with payroll which official course route and completion record apply to your UAN.
- Keep your own completion acknowledgement and ask how it will be reflected in the scheme record.
Course screens can change. If you cannot find the prescribed module or your completion status, check current official instructions and ask your employer's scheme contact. An unofficial answer key or a paid private certificate is not proof of completing the prescribed programme.
PM-VBRY payment not received: what should I check?
Work through the record in order. Repeating the course cannot repair a missing employer contribution. Completing six calendar months is also not sufficient evidence by itself.
Your troubleshooting route
Eligibility history → completed wage months → paid ECR entries → UAN authentication → Aadhaar-bank linkage → course record for second instalment → employer/EPFO follow-up.
The guidelines count the joining month when employment begins on or before its fifth day; later joining starts the count with the following month. Payment processing is tied to eligibility and paid ECRs, with a stated 45-day processing provision. Required UAN face authentication and Aadhaar-based bank payment conditions must also be satisfied. These provisions do not support a guaranteed individual credit date.
Example: An employee joining on 4 September and one joining on 12 September should not assume the same first completed wage month. Both should ask payroll for the actual sequence of paid ECR months. An expected date based only on the offer letter can therefore be misleading.
For a useful support request, write: “Please confirm my recorded joining date, first contributory membership date, eligible completed wage months, paid ECR status and any pending authentication or bank-linkage requirement for PM-VBRY.” Keep UAN, Aadhaar and bank documents inside official private support channels; do not post them in public comments.
Common first-job benefit questions
I completed the course. Why is my first instalment still missing?
Check eligibility and contribution records first. The official employee page attaches the course to the second instalment; a completion acknowledgement does not prove that the other conditions have been met.
Can I combine three months at one company and three at another?
The official FAQ specifies six months in the same establishment for the first instalment and twelve for the second. Do not add two unrelated three-month spells together and assume the first threshold is complete.
Will every employee get ₹15,000 plus ₹3,000 every month?
No. That mixes the employee and employer parts of the scheme. Use the employee amount and conditions explained above when checking your own entitlement.
Is PM-VBRY the same as withdrawing my PF balance?
No. This is an employment incentive with its own rules. If your problem is an existing PF withdrawal, use our separate guide to an EPF claim marked settled but not credited.
