SEBI announced its Samajh Se Investing Simple campaign under Project Jagrook on 5 October 2026. For a new investor, the useful question is how to turn an awareness message into a repeatable habit before choosing a product or sending money.
What SEBI announced this week
The regulator's release places India's World Investor Week on 5–11 October 2026. The campaign combines SEBI and securities-market partners' education efforts. It focuses on understanding products and risks, checking investment platforms and payment requests, and making informed decisions.
SEBI also introduced MUST, a university and college initiative in which nominated faculty, staff or senior students can become trained partner educators. It announced an official WhatsApp presence for investor-awareness resources. These announcements are education initiatives; the release does not identify a fund to buy or promise an investment return. Read the official 5 October SEBI announcement for the details and the authentic channel information.
A five-question checklist for your next investment
The following is our practical reading checklist, not a new SEBI compliance requirement. Keep the answers in one note so that enthusiasm does not replace a clear explanation.
- What am I buying? Write whether the money buys a deposit, a share, mutual-fund units or another product. If you can only repeat the advertised return, the product explanation is incomplete.
- What can go wrong? Describe one situation in which the value falls, access is restricted or a withdrawal costs money. Read the product documents rather than relying on a social-media summary.
- When will I need the money? Put a calendar date beside the goal. Money for a near-term bill and money for a distant goal need separate planning.
- What does it cost? List product costs and any platform or service charges separately. A useful comparison uses the same investment amount and time period.
- Who receives my money? Start from the institution's official site and independently check payment instructions. Pause if the recipient or purpose is unclear.
Try the checklist with a ₹5,000 monthly budget
Suppose you can set aside ₹5,000 a month. Before choosing an investment, write down whether you already have money accessible for an unexpected bill, whether the ₹5,000 commitment is affordable in a difficult month, and what goal the contribution serves. These are planning questions, not instructions to select a particular fund.
Our monthly budget planner can help separate expenses from the available contribution. After understanding the product, use the SIP calculator to compare assumptions. A projected balance is arithmetic based on your inputs, not proof that a scheme will earn the assumed rate.
Keep education and sales messages separate
An educational explanation should help you understand a decision even if you never buy anything. Save the source and the date, then compare them with what a salesperson or online creator says. A forwarded logo, cropped screenshot or urgent message is a weak basis for deciding where your savings should go.

Questions beginners ask
Does this announcement change my fund's return?
An awareness campaign is not an input to a fund-return calculation. Read your scheme documents and examine the investment itself.
Should I follow a channel forwarded by a stranger?
Use the official announcement as your starting point and verify the destination independently. Do not treat a forwarded message as a product recommendation.
What is one useful action today?
Choose one product you already hold and complete the five-question note above. Mark unanswered questions for follow-up before increasing your commitment.
