Use the rate applicable to your supply

This tool adds or removes GST mathematically. Check the current notification and classification for the supply date. It does not determine GST registration, input tax credit, exempt status, export treatment or cess.

GST calculation questions

Model and content reviewed 2 October 2026. Results depend on your inputs.

Multiply the tax-exclusive base by the selected rate divided by 100. For ₹10,000 at 18%, GST is ₹1,800 and the inclusive total is ₹11,800.
Divide the inclusive amount by 1 + rate/100. At 18%, ₹11,800 / 1.18 = ₹10,000 base and ₹1,800 GST. Subtracting 18% of the inclusive amount gives the wrong result.
No. Presets and your custom rate are arithmetic inputs. Determine the applicable HSN/SAC classification, supply date, notification and conditions separately. The September 2025 changes mean old broad 12%/28% category tables should not be treated as current rate advice.
The display shows alternative splits: equal CGST plus SGST for the illustrated intra-state case, or IGST for an inter-state case. Do not add all three displayed amounts. Place-of-supply rules, cess and other levies are outside this calculation.

GST inclusive and exclusive price: check the calculation

“Add GST” starts with a tax-exclusive base price. “Remove GST” starts with the amount already including tax. The same invoice can be checked in both directions if the rate and taxable value are consistent.

IllustrationBase priceGSTInclusive price
Add 5% to ₹10,000₹10,000₹500₹10,500
Add 18% to ₹10,000₹10,000₹1,800₹11,800
Remove 18% from ₹11,800₹10,000₹1,800₹11,800

Why is GST not 18% of the inclusive bill?

The rate applies to the tax-exclusive base. For an inclusive amount T and rate g%, base = T × 100 ÷ (100 + g), and GST = T × g ÷ (100 + g). Taking 18% of ₹11,800 would incorrectly give ₹2,124 instead of ₹1,800.

Should I add CGST, SGST and IGST together?

No. The shown split is an alternative presentation. At 18% total GST on a ₹10,000 base, the illustrated intra-state split is ₹900 CGST plus ₹900 SGST; the alternative inter-state figure is ₹1,800 IGST. Actual place-of-supply treatment must be checked separately.

The presets do not identify the legally correct rate. Classification, supply date, notification, cess and special valuation rules can matter. A 0% arithmetic input does not decide whether a supply is exempt or zero-rated.

Formula context: CBIC valuation rules, including tax-inclusive value. This link supports the arithmetic; use current notifications for rate decisions.
