SIP or FD โ which gives better returns for 5 years? +
For a 5-year horizon, SIP in a good equity mutual fund typically outperforms FD significantly. Historical data shows equity SIPs delivering 12โ15% vs FD's 7โ8%. However, SIP carries market risk while FD is guaranteed. If you cannot afford temporary negative returns, choose FD.
Is there a tax benefit on home loan EMI? +
Yes! Section 80C: up to โน1.5L deduction on principal repayment. Section 24(b): up to โน2L on interest for self-occupied property. First-time buyers: additional โน1.5L under Section 80EEA. These are available only under the old tax regime.
